Aviation Law

On its flight from Cyprus to Athens on 14 August 2005, Helios Flight 522 crashed, claiming the lives of all 115 passengers and 6 crew. The tragedy was attributed to negligence on the part of both the Helios pilots and the manufacturers.

In 2007, working in partnership with the US law firm Lieff Global, Neofytos Pirilides and Dr Christos Clerides successfully represented some of the victims’ families in a claim against the Boeing Company and A-Jet Aviation Ltd (previously known as Helios Airways) in the US District Court of Chicago.

The case was finally settled by the insurers of Helios and Boeing, who paid substantial damages to the personal representatives/legal heirs of the deceased.
