Neofytos Pirilides
Managing Partner of N. Pirilides & Associates LLC
Mr. Neofytos Pirilides is the Founder and Managing Partner of N. Pirilides & Associates LLC. He was born in Limassol in 1956. He studied Law at the University of Athens and obtained his LL.M degree from the University College of London (UCL), with specialization in Constitutional and European Law in 1980. He is a member of the Cyprus Bar Association since 1981.
 
As a practicing litigant and indeed a fighting barrister, Mr. Pirilides has successfully handled numerous civil cases before the Cyprus Courts and has undoubtedly gained a vast, if not unmatchable, experience and expertise.  
 
At the beginning of his career, Mr. Pirilides was one of the sole players on the pitch relating to shipping law matters, handling various ship registrations, ship mortgages as well as freight and admiralty claims.  With the passage of time, his attention shifted and his skills were both directed and invested more in the fields of corporate and commercial litigation, including fraud, shareholders’ disputes, injunctive reliefs etc., whereby he has, and still enjoys, distinct success, being to-date actively involved in the legal representation of prominent local and international clients consisting of complex corporate structures of a multinational scale and international dimension.
 
Mr. Pirilides has indeed acquired a signature touch and particular know-how in the drafting of contracts which often act as the key solutions in big transactions. 
 
Mr. Pirilides has acted for and against most of the key banking institutions in Cyprus and his winning of several banking law cases and in fact his establishment of precedents on this section of the law has transformed him into a rather popular figure in the banking law field and particularly a preferred negotiating figure on very ‘tender’ cases involving huge funds and high-end clients.  
 
Throughout his career Mr. Pirilides has handled matters relating to tort, finance, corporate, mergers & acquisitions, insolvency, tax and international tax, trusts and estate planning, as well as intellectual property and has gained proficiency in arbitration proceedings as well as the recognition and enforcement proceedings of foreign judgments and arbitral awards.
Marilena Pirilidou
Partner in N. Pirilides & Associates LLC
Marilena was admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Laws from the University of Kent in 2004 and obtained her LL.M degree in European Law from the same University in 2005.  She was admitted to the Cyprus Bar in 2006.  Marilena is a member of the International Tax Planning Association since 2007. 
 
Marilena is the Head of the Corporate and Commercial Department of the Firm, servicing both local and international clientele. She is involved in the drafting and reviewing of all sorts of agreements and other legal documents, as well as the provision of legal and tax opinions.   She is also involved in various corporate matters, including but not limited to, private and public company registrations in various jurisdictions, corporate structuring, creation and administration of international trusts, registration and execution of pledges, transfers of the corporate seat of companies to and from Cyprus, registration of national and international trademarks, general administration of companies as well as immigration matters mainly relating to the acquisition of Cyprus citizenship, residence permits etc.  
 
Furthermore, Marilena is heavily involved in the provision of legal consultation to Cyprus Investment Firms (CIF) and binary options brokerage companies, providing the legal assistance necessary for the acquisition of the necessary CySEC’s licenses. She regularly deals with investment management transactions, advising on corporate and regulatory issues relating to all types of investments funds (ICIS, UCITS and private equity funds).  Further, Marilena has advised and carried out the necessary applications for the acquisition of a banking license and a license to operate as a payment institution issued by the Central Bank of Cyprus.  
 
Marilena has authored various articles mainly in the areas of corporate and commercial law and immigration law. 
Tania Pirilidou
Partner in N. Pirilides & Associates LLC
Tania was admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Laws from the University of Kent in 2007. Following her studies, she attended the College of Law (Bloomsbury), where she was awarded a postgraduate diploma in Bar Vocational Studies and was called to the Degree of the Utter Bar in October 2008. She is a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple and was admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association in 2010. Tania is also a registered member of the Mediators of the Ministry of Justice in Cyprus.
 
Tania practises litigation on various fields of civil law, specializing in corporate and commercial litigation, including, inter alia, injunctive relief applications and other shareholders’ disputes as well as disputes relating to contract, tort and property law matters. 
 
Together with enhanced skills on contract formation and reviewing, Tania is equally experienced in the drafting of legal opinions as well as negotiations as part of the promotion of ADR, providing parties with most intelligent tailor-made solutions. 
Kyriakos Karatsis
Partner in N. Pirilides & Associates LLC
Kyriakos Karatsis obtained his LL.B (Hons) (University of Leeds Metropolitan) in 2008 and his LL.M in International Commercial Law (London Middlesex University) in 2009. Kyriakos was admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association in 2010, the year he joined the firm.  He is also a lecturer at Frederick University of Cyprus.
 
Kyriakos is a Court litigant, focusing in civil disputes and having gained extensive expertise in many areas of international commercial and corporate practice, varying from all sorts of restrictive measures / injunctive relief applications arising, inter alia, from shareholders’ disputes, commercial and corporate fraud and/or insolvency proceedings. Kyriakos has also been involved in private arbitration, banking disputes and multiple breaches of contract as well as tort law cases. 
 
Being an active litigant in the commercial and business-orientated field has not withered Kyriakos’ humanitarian and moral approach, who has, throughout his engagement at the firm, effectively handled a plentiful number of family law cases, dealing with all sorts of domestic disputes, including abduction, adoptions and complex matrimonial property clashes, promoting and in fact often reaching on most of the cases he has dealt with, ideal and more importantly, functional settlements and practical arrangements for both parties involved and of course in line with the best interests and welfare of the children, if any.  
 
Kyriakos frequently advises on all sorts of Cyprus law matters and works closely with the firm’s Managing Partner. In terms of Kyriakos’ involvement in the firm’s land and real estate sector, he has gained particular knowledge in land-registry procedures, drafting or reviewing purchase/sale of land agreements and has dealt with many real-estate cases over the years, ranging from simple acquisitions and sales by individuals to composite big-scale development projects. 
Antonia Argyrou
Associate in N. Pirilides & Associates LLC
Antonia was admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Laws from the University of Southampton in 2013. Subsequently, in 2014, she was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple after completing the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) at The University of Law, London Bloomsbury.  She has joined the firm in September 2014 as a trainee advocate and was called to the Cyprus Bar in 2015. 
 
Antonia has gained legal experience both in Cyprus, as a legal intern, and in England, as a mini-pupil in three different Chambers. During her studies in the UK, she has been involved in pro-bono projects, she has participated in mooting competitions for law students in England and she has marshalled three Judges in English courts. This legal experience has provided her with an understanding of the commercial reality, practical experience with overseas clients and a solid grounding in order to reinforce the vital skills necessary for any dedicated advocate.
Tefkros Chacholiadis
Associate in N. Pirilides & Associates LLC

Tefkros was admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Laws from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 2012. He completed his pupillage at the Attorney’s General Office, gaining valuable experience in Court making numerous appearances (in both civil and criminal matters), at the end of which he was called to the Cyprus Bar in 2013. He then continued his legal studies in the UK where he completed the Graduate Diploma of Law (GDL) in September 2014 at Sheffield University and the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) in July 2015 at BBP Law School, London Holborn. Tefkros is also a member of the Honourable Society of Grey’s Inn. Further he gained his accreditation in the UK as a Civil Mediator. Following his legal studies he was chosen as “Blue Book Trainee” by the European Commission and specifically by DG Grow where he did his 5-month internship. In May 2016 he joined the Firm.  


In his time in the UK he participated in several mooting and debating workshops and competitions having won the debating Competition of Sheffield’s Bar Society. In pursuance of his debating passion, Tefkros has taught debating in schools and prisons in London through a pro-bono project organised by Grey’s Inn. His experience and knowledge of continental, European and common law have equipped him with the tools to handle cases in various spheres of law in the quasi-legal system of Cyprus as well as multijurisdictional issues.    

 
Tefkros has, in his short time in the Firm, shown exhilarating zest and enthusiasm for the practice of the Law and the field of Litigation, diving into deep-waters and dealing with complex legal matters and cases handled by the Firm, which include both matters of corporate litigation and international trade as well as the more ordinary and everyday human issues requiring legal advice.

Kristie Zavou
Associate in N. Pirilides & Associates LLC

Kristie is an LLB graduate of Queen Mary University of London. She has trained as a solicitor by completing the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the University of Law, London Bloomsbury in 2014. Kristie was called to the Cyprus Bar in 2015 and joined N. Pirilides & Associates LLC in November 2015.

Whilst in the UK, she has participated as a member in various law societies and related legal workshops and volunteering tasks such as the annual London Legal Walk. Like all members of our team, Kristie has a strong-work ethic and aspires to produce ultimate results in her field. Despite her short experience, Kristie has nonetheless had the opportunity to be involved in many high-profile cases and deals of a commercial reality and has acquired an invaluable inside knowledge of the various commercial and corporate duties involved in simple as well as complex legal cases. Through her undertaking of the LPC, she has acquired an extensive knowledge on the application of the law in various areas such as Property law, Business law, Mergers and Acquisitions, International Commercial Law, Litigation and Employment matters.

She has exceptional legal research skills which overall make her a strong candidate in the legal arena and has, in her early stages as a member of our team, been handed the responsibility of performing numerous court appearances and handling commercial disputes and issues involving banking law, rent control matters and family law.

Currently, she is one of the lawyers in charge of a massively publicized case involving former EOKA fighters in a claim against the British Government for torture and other violations of the European Convention of Human Rights which has taken place in Cyprus during 1955-1959.

Christodoulos Giagkou
Trainee Advocate in N. Pirilides & Associates LLC

Christodoulos, LLB graduate of the University of Central Lancashire, has completed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) in the City University of London in 2016. He has joined N.Pirilides & Associates LLC in October 2016 as a trainee advocate.


During his studies in the UK, Christodoulos has been involved in various law societies and legal workshops. Through his academic and professional experience he has acquired vital skills which form the basis of any promising and successful lawyer. Undertaking the LPC has meant that he has acquired extensive knowledge on the application of the law in various areas such as Business law, Property law, Mergers and Acquisitions, Commercial law, Civil and Criminal Litigation and Commercial Dispute Resolution. More specifically, Christodoulos has dealt with all the legal areas surrounding basic matters such as Company meetings and resolutions as well as more complex matters which may arise in a corporate and commercial environment such as shareholders’ agreements, share sale agreements, indemnity clauses and guarantees. The drafting of leasehold agreements and asset sale agreements are also something he has had much more exposure and experience with together with an enhanced insight on Arbitration and ADR. He has thus gained a great understanding of the commercial reality and an invaluable know-how of the various commercial and corporate duties involved in simple as well as complicated legal matters. Furthermore, having been involved and engaged as a legal intern during summer breaks in various law firms in Cyprus, he has an overall pragmatic and mature approach towards the demands of the legal world.

Zooula Zalti
Trainee Advocate in N. Pirilides & Associates LLC

Zooula obtained her LL.B in 2017 from Frederick University of Cyprus with honors.

During her studies she has gained knowledge in European Law, ADR and Maritime Law.

Zooula is highly motivated and well organized. She has great researching skills that help to gather legal data relevant to any legal case and is highly interested in being up to date with changes in law and jurisprudence. She has the ability to work under pressure with confidentiality and professionalism.

Kleanthis Zachariou
Trainee Advocate in N. Pirilides & Associates LLC

Kleanthis was admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Laws from the University of Reading in 2016 and obtained his LL.M degree in Human Rights law from University College London (UCL) in 2017.

 

Kleanthis was previously an intern at N. Pirilides & Associates LLC for a short period of time. During his internship, he shadowed lawyers in client meetings and in court trials. He considered the high level of professionalism and expertise of the firm as the driving reasons in choosing N. Pirilides & Associates LLC in order to do his legal practise.

 

Specialising in the area of Human Rights Law, he has acquired extensive knowledge on the status quo and occurring developments of Human Rights Law on worldwide scale, with main focus on the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights.  Due to the nature of the specialisation which required a constant update on socio-political and legal developments, he was able to cultivate crucial skills in researching, critical thinking and critical analysis; essential tools which form the basis of a promising lawyer with great potential.  Apart from his specialised studies, he also has wide knowledge in other areas of law such as Employment Law and Company Law.

Katia Pirilidou
Tax Consultant
Mrs. Katia Pirilidou is a Fellow Chartered Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW). She trained and qualified in the UK. She is also a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC), on the Council of which she served as a member for ten years. Furthermore, Mrs. K. Pirilidou was a member of the Disciplinary Committee of ICPAC and a holder of the Advanced Diploma in Taxation of the Tax Faculty of the ICAEW. 
 
Mrs. K. Pirilidou qualified in 1980 and after she had worked for a number of years with a private firm of Auditors in Limassol, she soon joined the public sector as a principal assessor in the Limassol Inland Revenue Department, serving various positions of responsibility.
 
In 1994 she was appointed as the District Officer of the said office and in 1997 she was promoted and transferred to the headquarters of the Inland Revenue Department in Lefkosia, serving the position of Chief Revenue Officer, working in close cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, all in all gaining invaluable experience in all different kinds of complex national and international tax-related issues of either small-scale individuals or big-scale cross-border entities. 
 
In 2010, she had an early retirement from the Public Service. At the time of her retirement, Mrs. K. Pirilidou was serving as the Head of the following divisions:
 
  1. Head of the International Tax Affairs (member of the negotiating team for the conclusion of numerous currently in place Double-Tax Treaties) 
  2. Head of the Immovable Property & Capital Gains Tax
  3. Head of the Internal Audit
  4. Head of the Valuation Department
  5. Head of the Inheritance Tax
 
Mrs. K. Pirilidou joined our associate corporate service providing firm namely Multilysis Services Limited as the Head of the Tax Consultancy Department in 2010 and offers supreme tax advice and unrivalled tailor-made solutions to local and international clients.
