EU citizens do not require a visa to enter Cyprus, but they must carry a valid passport or their national identity card provided there is a photo and the citizenship is declared on the card.

On the other hand, third-country nationals have several options of obtaining permission to enter the Republic of Cyprus since there are numerous types of visas one can acquire.

These are summarized below:

Short-stay or travel visas, including multiple-entry visas

This visa entitles a national of a third country to travel to the Republic of Cyprus for reasons other than immigration and is valid for one or several visits to Cyprus. The total duration of the stay should not exceed 3 months in any 180-day period from the date of the first visit.

Temporary residence permit (pink slips)

This is the perfect solution for persons who want to extend their stay in Cyprus for more than 3 months (90 days). This is valid for 1 year and can be renewed on an annual basis. Under this permit, a person is allowed to live in Cyprus on a temporary basis and also bring his close family members to live with him.

Long-stay visas

A third-country national who plans to visit the Republic of Cyprus for reasons of employment, study or business, an extended stay or for committing several visits to the country, a total period of which exceeds 3 months in a 180-day period, must apply for a long-stay visa by contacting the Civil Registry and Migration Department.

Airport transit visas (ATV)

This visa entitles foreigners who are required to have such visa to pass through the international transit area of Cypriot airports without actually entering the national territory of Cyprus during a stop-over or transfer between two stages of an international flight. The requirement to have this type of visa is an exception to the general right to transit without a visa through Cyprus. This visa may be issued for one transit, or exceptionally for several transits. The duration of each transit case should not exceed 5 days. The transit visa is issued provided that the entry of the traveler into the territory of the destination country is guaranteed and that the route taken normally requires transit through Cyprus.

Group visas

This is a transit visa or a visa limited to a maximum stay of 30 days, which may be affixed to a group passport - except where national legislation provides otherwise - issued to a group of travelers formed prior to the decision to travel. The group visa is issued, provided that the group members enter the territory, stay there and leave it as a group.

Group visas may be issued to groups of between 5 and 50 people. The person in charge of the group should possess an individual passport and, where necessary, an individual visa.

PRO-VISA

This type of visa applies only to holders of Russian passports who intend to travel from Russia to Cyprus by a direct flight. It is issued for a single entry with the right to stay up to 3 months during any 180-day period. It is a provisional visa which is issued for an electronic application of a tourist at the Consulate of the Republic of Cyprus. The final entry permit (visa) is placed in a tourist’s passport at the airport upon arrival to Cyprus.

A necessary condition for the issuance of pro-visa is a valid passport, with validity not less than 6 months from the date of application to the Consulate of Cyprus.

One must provide at the airport in Cyprus documents which confirm a purpose of travel and accommodation in Cyprus and availability of sufficient funds for stay and return to the country of permanent residence.
