Brexit and its effects on British Expats

“Brexit refers” to the decision of British people to exit the European Union, which was determined through the UK referendum of the United Kingdom's membership of the European Union, held on June 23, 2016.

Although Brexit would have a real impact on British expats, close ties between Britain and Cyprus should limit the damage.

As the High Commissioner of UK in Cyprus stated there is no need for British expats in Cyprus to fear of the consequences of such exit on them as the bilateral relations between Cyprus and Britain, which pre-existed the accession of the two countries in the EU and will continue to be binding on both sides, will be strengthened regardless of the future relations between UK and EU.

According to David Cameron’s resignation statement, there would be no “immediate changes” to expats’ living circumstances.
