Savvas Theofanous is a Senior Associate in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department of N. Pirilides & Associates LLC.
His practice focuses on civil, commercial and corporate litigation whereas his legal awareness and experience extend to all fields of law. He regularly appears before the Supreme Court and the District Courts in Cyprus representing both local and international clients in matters with a strong commercial element, involving shareholders’ disputes, breaches of directors' duties, commercial fraud, asset recovery and without notice interim relief, the protection of minority shareholders, as well as the registration and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards.
Apart from litigation, Savvas maintains an equal and genuine interest in ADR methods and he has a solid background in arbitration and mediation. He is an Accredited Mediator for civil and commercial matters and an active member of the Arbitration and Mediation Committee of the Cyprus Bar Association. Savvas has also recently joined the community of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators upon his successful completion of Module 1 in International Arbitration and he is currently undertaking Module 2 Law of Obligations.
His academic background reaffirms that he has a sound knowledge of legal principles and mechanisms applicable in both civil and common-law jurisdictions. Savvas was admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Laws from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 2016. He subsequently obtained his LLM in International Commercial Law from the University of Bristol, UK in 2018 with Distinction. In terms of his academic work, he submitted his thesis on shareholders’ litigation, elaborating on multiple derivative claims in the corporate group structure.
Savvas was admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association in 2017 and he joined the Firm in 2018 as an Advocate demonstrating a strong capacity of dealing with not only substantive, but also procedural legal issues of complicated and contentious nature.
